Keeping sites of special and scientific interest standing strong: Our multi-disciplinary approach was needed for two projects sited within a Grade 2 listed park in Redditch designed by Capability Brown and Repton. Hewell Grange Ruin stabilisation works aimed to leave the remnants of the original structure in a self-supporting state, without the need for structural scaffold support. In addition, the SSSI-designated Hewell Reservoir required crest and spillway works to the earthwork dam, aimed to address it’s ability to withstand abnormal flood conditions.
We worked closely with Historic England and the local authority conservation and archaeology team, as well as the local flood authority, Natural England and the Worcestershire Gardens Trust to install a temporary access road and construct a causeway across the lake to allow access to the dam crest.
Both conservation projects were co-ordinated to accommodate wintering birds, nesting birds and bat hibernation.
